Major Achievements
Adam Goodes was awarded a Brownlow medal in 2003 and 2006. The Brownlow medal has been awarded since 1924 to the best and fairest in the league. Only 12 people in AFL have ever received 2 or more Brownlow medals. He has won 2 premierships in his career, his first being in 2005, the year he was awarded life membership to Sydney Swans. That was the first time Sydney Swans had won a premiership since 1933. Adam Goodes also won a premiership against Hawthorn in 2012. He won Best & Fairest in 2003, 2006 and 2011. The Brownlow medal allows people who have been suspended during a game to get the award whereas the Best & Fairest doesn't. Goodes was in the All Australian team in 2003. 2006, 2009 and 2011. The All Australian team is an All Star team of AFL and is selected at the end of each season. He was the Sydney leading goalkicker in 2009, 2010 and 2011 which means he was the best goalkicker for Sydney Swans that year. Adam Goodes was awarded the Rising Star award in 1999 which is awarded to the best player in their first year in the AFL. He was in the Indigenous Team of the Century, which was announced on August 1st 2005. At this time, AFL Chairman Ron Evans said: "In a sense, it's more than the team of the century. It's a team that recognises the contribution of Indigenous Australians since the very beginnings of the game." Adam Goodes was also awarded Australian of the Year in 2014 because he spent a lot of time with troubled youth and he established the Go Foundation.
