Students will explore the world of Australian Fibres, with a focus on cotton, wool and alpaca fleece. Students will learn about these products from paddock to final product and also explore opportunities available with natural fibres for recycling and repurposing. They will learn that each of the production cycles for these three elements can produce both food and fibre. Students will work scientifically with our digital microscopes to explore fibres at a cellular level. They will undertake two formal experiments in a full day offering and one in a 1/2 day offering. In a full day program students will also have the opportunity to create a new product from the natural fibres studied n the unit. This will include felting wool/fleece and/or repurposing cotton.
