OCR’s GCSE (9–1) in Mathematics provides a broad, coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study. It encourages learners to develop confidence in, and a positive attitude towards, mathematics and to recognise the importance of mathematics in their own lives and to society. It enables learners to:

• Develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts.

• Acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems.

• Reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences and draw conclusions.

• Comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context.

AQA FUNCTIONAL SKILLS MATHEMATICS LEVEL 1/2: LIFE SKILLS (AQA8361/8362)

Functional skills requirements are integrated within GCSE Mathematics. Reasons for taking Functional Skills at KS3 might include securing essential skills as a foundation for progression at GCSE. The focus is on:

• Representing data;

• Analysing situations mathematically;

• Interpreting solutions to problems using mathematics;

• Coverage of mathematical content in number, algebra, geometry and statistics.

There is both Level 1 and Level 2 available in this course. The Level 2 course is equivalent to a Mathematics GCSE in terms of employment.
