MOBILITY IN RIBERA, SICILY (ITALY)
ITALY MOBILITY REPORT
The mobility in Ribera took place from Monday 16th to Friday 20th Jenuary 2023. There were 14 Spanish students and three teachers, 11 Romanian students and 2 teachers, 13 French students and 3 teachers, 42 Italian students and seven teachers involved.
We were welcomed with some students’ performances: songs, dances and playing instruments.
To carry out the different activities regarding the topic of our project, six mixed groups of students and teachers were created giving them the names of some typical Sicilian fruits. Both students and teachers were given a badge so that their names could be remembered easily.
The different groups were guided to visit the school and the town. After that the Major of Ribera received all of us in the Town Hall. We were also received by a professor of the “Toscanini”Conservatory situated in Ribera where we saw some performances by some musicians.
As regards the other school activities, the same groups participated to: a game called “Erasmus Treasure Hunt”consisting in finding places inside the school. In each place they arrived they found a piece of paper with an image and a sentence which let the students reflect about some different ways to create a good atmosphere at school; an activity named “Doctor Why” in which the team groups had to answer general culture questions. Another interesting activity was carried out to know each other. Students worked sitting in circle on the floor and talking about themselves and writing on a piece of paper what makes them feel good and what doesn’t make them feel good. Very interesting feelings came out from this activity.
All the works done by each delegation about the practices our schools do, were presented by each country.
As for the culture activities we visited Mount San Calogero with its Basilica in Sciacca which is famous for its ceramic and its square with its ficus and palm trees. From here it was possible to have a stupendous view of a marine panorama with the port and the sea.
We went to Palermo where we were received by the President of the Regional Assembly in the beautiful room where the members of the Sicilian Parliament usually meet . It is in the famous Norman Palace where we could also see the marvellous Palatin Chapel . Then we walked to the Cathedral, Quattro Canti, Piazza Pretoria or Shame Square, Massimo Theatre.
We also made an excursion to the famous Valley of the Temples in Agrigento. Here it ispossible to admire the remains of the ancient town of Akragas immersed in an amazing site with olive and almond centuries-trees. On the way back we stopped at Seccagrande Beach
The last day was dedicated to the feedback questionnaire, issuing the participation certificates and rewarding the winner teams of the various activities.
While the four coordinators met to discuss and prepare the activities of the next mobility in Romania, all the students together with the other teachers were entertained with music and dances by Italian students.
Teachers and students were very pleased to visit the various places, to learn about Sicilian habits and culture and to taste our oranges. Through all the activities carried out the students have had the chance to make friendship and to develop their creativity promoting the intercultural dialogue, so that they can also find out new horizons.
Futermore they have had the opprtunity to practice the English language since they were obliged to use it to understand each other.
