We have arrived and had our first day at Broomlee! Our first challenges to overcome were carrying our suitcases over the mud and then making our beds without fitted sheets!! Then it was time for our first activity. We did a range of:
Nightline - we were blind folded and had to complete an obstacle course in our team. Ruaridh says, “It was challenging getting the group to listen to each other.”
Crate Stack – We stacked crates and had to climb up on top of them. Noah says, “It was fun when you got to kick down the entire tower.”
Leap of Faith – We had to climb up a long pole and stand on a platform at the top. Once at the top you had to jump off. Amy says, “It was hard to get on the platform because it was really thin.”
Orienteering – You have to mark your location on the map and then find the different pictures around the site. Eve says, “It was quite hard to find some of the pictures as they were hidden in quite hard places.”
Cat Walk – You climb up a tree and walk along a log and then jump down. The rest of the team are in charge of pulling your rope attached to your harness. Archie says, “It felt good to jump down and I would love to do it again.”
Archery – We did a competition of girls vs boys. Jessica says “One of the girls got bullseye but the boys won in the end.
For lunch we had a mixture of baked potatoes and wraps with tons of fillings and for dinner we had chicken curry or pasta. Our comments on the food: “Food is amazing” “It is delicious” “The curry was divine!”
In the evening half of us went to a camp fire and the other half played giant snakes and ladders while running around the whole site looking for clues.
We are very excited for another day tomorrow.
Today was our second day at Broomlee. The boys got up way before the girls and some of the boys were running about with an American football while the girls still slept. Breakfast was really good and we could choose from pan au chocolat, croissants, toast and cereal. Then we had a packed full day of activities.
Izzy says: “The leap of faith was really scary when you had to get on the platform at the top but I felt really proud when I managed it. It was challenging to hit the ball when you jumped but I managed it twice!”
Leo D says “I was happy with myself for trying the leap of faith and I managed to get up to the top! I managed to jump and hit the big white ball.”
Rachel says “It was really hard to climb to the top during the cat walk but once I got onto the beam it was a bit easier. When I jumped down I was really proud because I had done it.”
Xander says “Archery was hard. I had done it before but I still found it hard. I hit a red and was very close to the yellow. We had to wear a special arm guard to protect your forearm.”
Leah says “The thought of the nightline was really scary and I didn’t want to do it because I did not want to get muddy. You are blindfolded so that made it even scarier. Once we started it and I realised everyone was together as a team it wasn’t so bad and we completed the whole course.”
Abi says “The crate climb was fun but it was difficult because it was really wobbly balancing on the crates. It was fun helping each other do it.”
Lunch was good! We had soup and baguettes with optional fillings. For dinner we had mac & cheese or sausage and mash, with custard and crumble or cake! We have just finished supper which was hot chocolate and either a muffin or a tea cake.
There are mixed feelings about coming home. Some of us are happy to get to our own beds but some of us are sad because the activities are lots of fun!
We have taken loads of photos but it is taking a long time to upload them from all of the different cameras. I will upload as many as I can while we are here and upload more once we are back home.
