Over the past few years, Ross High School has been proud to operate an Equity and Inclusion Trips Policy which has helped ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent young people from participating in educational and enrichment opportunities.
Through this policy, we have committed to funding 50% of the cost of all school trips for young people who are care experienced, young carers and/or entitled to free school meals. In addition, we have offered a 25% reduction for twins and siblings taking part in the same trip. We firmly believe that these measures have helped make trips more accessible for many families and have enabled more young people to benefit from the experiences they provide.
However, the number and scale of opportunities we now offer our young people has increased significantly. Recent examples include the launch of our S6 Liverpool Trip, the S3 Brighton Watersports Trip, and the wide range of activities available through our annual Wellbeing Week programme for S1 to S3 pupils.
While we are delighted to be able to offer these opportunities, the increased demand for financial assistance has placed considerable pressure on the funds available to support families. This reflects the wider challenges faced by many communities at present, and we fully recognise that the rising cost of living continues to impact households across the country.
Despite the incredible efforts of our Parent Council and the success of numerous school fundraising activities, we no longer have the financial resources required to sustain our existing level of support. Put simply, the demand for assistance now exceeds the funds available.
We would like to thank all families, our Parent Council and the wider school community for their continued support and understanding. We will continue to explore additional funding opportunities and partnerships that may allow us to enhance this support in the future.
If you have any questions regarding this change or wish to discuss financial assistance for an upcoming trip, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Eligible young people will continue to receive support towards the cost of school trips.
Financial assistance will remain at 50% of the trip cost up to a maximum award of £100 per family.
This means that:
A trip costing £50 will continue to receive a £25 reduction.
A trip costing £200 will receive a £100 reduction.
A trip costing £300 will also receive a £100 reduction, as this is the maximum level of support available.
Twins or siblings will remain at 25% of each trip up to a maximum of £100 per family.
Please note initial deposits for trips are required to be paid in full by all. Discounts will be added to future payments.
We genuinely regret having to make this change. The decision has not been taken lightly and is solely a reflection of the growing level of need and the limited resources available to meet that demand. Our priority remains ensuring that as many young people as possible can access the opportunities we provide, while managing our support fund in a fair and sustainable way.
