P6 are very lucky to be taking part in a block of rugby tasters with a local coach Graham.
It's been good fun learning how to pass in rugby and having a go at practicing this skill by playing different games.
*MARCH 2024*
We have been doing lots of team building in 6D!
We worked in our new table groups to create team names and logos based on the idea of 'chocolate bars'.
What do you think?
*AUGUST 2023*
Every week, we work in our table groups to participate in LEGO Challenge. This is where we work as teams to build something that meets a criteria and demonstrates good co-operation.
The winning table(s) earn cushions for the week!
*AUGUST 2023*
Lego Challenge - This was a LEGO challenge from April where we had to build something related to the season/time of year.
Can you work out what we made?
And how about our Lego Challenges linked to the learning we did on Wind Development.
Can you spot how they link?
STEPS TO SUCCESS...
Every week we choose different subjects to celebrate success in!
We have our say by nominating classmates who we feel have worked hard or been particularly successful.
Check out who has featured on them already...
We are still enjoying celebrating success weekly in 6D!
We nominate each other for different categories. Check out who was on our success steps in the last week of February.
*February 2024*
We are now RECOGNISING success daily too! We decide on a learning target each week and talk about what successfully achieving this would look like. When we are consistently demonstrating these things, we are recognised and get to throw our own dart at the dartboard.
We enjoy the healthy competition of this and try to better out scores each day - but the most important thing is simply achieving the target and being up EVERY day.

BELL OF BRILLIANCE
*Added by Freddie and Harris*
The Bell of Brilliance is a way for people to show they've done something brilliant or absolutely fantastic! People who have rung the bell of brilliance in our class so far are... Macie, Harris, Freddie, Freya, Lewis and Amelie.
In May the following people rang it... Ayla, Jessica and Jack.
And in June so far we've had.... Corey... for a fantastic overhead kick goal!
We have been thinking about the different feelings we can experience.
We shared and discussed scenarios that can make us feel a certain way.
We decided which emotions are 'comfortable' and 'uncomfortable'.
We talked about how people can react and strategies for handling different emotions.

We've been doing running, circle and ball games with P2D.
We used a 'growth mind-set' to create a BEAUTIFUL OOPS!
We each made a mistake on a classmate's work - they then had to turn it into a piece of art.
This used creativity, perseverance & problem solving! *AUGUST 2023*
*SEPTEMBER 2023*
*OCTOBER 2023*
As part of our Natural Disasters topic, we took inspiration from UK artist Nick Rowland. He is inspired by nature and uses different techniques to bring energy and colour to his work.
Here is an example of his work...
What do you think of our interpretations?
*APRIL 2024*
We have been doing data handling and everybody had a good time!
We have looked at bar graphs and made a picto bar graph as a class on favourite ice-creams.
We then collected our own data and displayed it in our own versions.

*MAY 2024*
Check out what we already knew before we started our topic...
*SEPTEMBER 2023*
We have learned lots about CIRCLES!
We now know the parts of a circle and that they are not polygons because they don't have straight sides.
We used compasses to draw circles, then turned them into art.
*SEPTEMBER 2023*
What do you think of our triangles?
There are different types: equilateral, isosceles, scalene and right-angled.
*OCTOBER 2023*
We have explored 3D shapes - naming them and looking at the matching nets.
*OCTOBER 2023*
We then had a go at putting 3D shapes back together using their nets.
Some of us added our own designs once our shapes were built!
We have developed lots of skills when working on time.
We looked reading analogue and digital time.
We have calculated time differences.
We have converted time from hours to minutes and seconds.
We have created/answered questions on timetables/ calendars.
We have looked at using different devices to record time and tried completing different challenges in set amounts of time.
PATTERNS
Recently we have explored patterns in Maths and in Numeracy whilst looking at multiplication and division.
*March & April 2024*
We enjoy doing active spelling stations on Thursdays to practise our pattern!
*SEPTEMBER 2023*
We also like Code Cracker! This takes a bit of brain power...

📙📕 3 O'clock Readers!📗📘
We have been enjoying our class novel - The Boy at the Back of the Class - and are nearly finished!
We have started doing 3 O'clock Readers... this is where someone has a go at reading the novel to the whole class. It's working really well.
Well done to those who have done it so far, here are just a few of you in action... 👍⭐
*November 2023*
We have changed the way organise and set reading. Each week, each group elects a Reading Leader. They decide on the homework task for the week and add it to our Reading Noticeboard. When we meet as group we use these skills to discuss what we've read. It's important you're up to speed on the reading so you can take part effectively in group time!
*January 2024*
We have been reading a book about a boy that went to a camp called Camp Green Lake but when he got there he saw no lake and hardly any green...

WRITING
We are currently working on EXPOSITION TEXTS.
The purpose of expositions is to persuade the reader by arguing one side of an argument.
Every week we celebrate STAR WRITERS on our Wonderful Writer's Washing Line. We get opportunities to assess each other's work in our trio carousel - either teacher, self and peer!
*February & March 2024*
Exploration! Enquiry! Enthusiasm!
To start our display we worked in pairs and trios to design a header for our classroom display. Lots of creativity, care and consideration went into it!
It looks super... big, bold and eye-catching!
*OCTOBER 2023*
Lego challenge has even incorporated Space.
Criteria: Build a planet that can be guessed just by looking at it!
I'm sure you can tell which planet the winning table chose!
*OCTOBER 2023*
We really enjoyed creating these... To make them we:
~designed our own astronauts
~applied our learning on circles to draw and create planets
~used Google to design, build and print our own space crafts

*November 2023*
We have started looking at HURRICANES.
We really enjoyed this experiment, thinking about what causes and contributes to hurricanes. It helped us to see what happens when a hurricane occurs.
*November 2023*
Some of us were so inspired by our volcano learning, it was used as one group's theme for LEGO challenge.
*DECEMBER 2023*
Moving Tectonic plates contribute to a natural disaster occurring!
Check out some of us demonstrating the different ways it can happen...

The Human Body
(added by Ollie McGowan)
We have been learning about lots of systems in the human body!
We had fun using our own bodies to make our classroom display title! *February 2024*
We have learned that the brain has lots of parts and that it can send messages as fast as the speed of light.
We learned from Operation Ouch that your femur bone can hold the equivalent of a truck full of furniture.
We learned that your lungs expand and and shrink so that the oxygen as well as blood can fly round your body to all the parts that need it.
When you eat something it goes down the oesophagus and into your stomach and then out your anus.
We are now embarking on the journey to become EXPERTS in the Human Skeletal System!
To start... we worked collaboratively in different groups to research the names of the bones in each section of the human skeleton. We traded the term cards we needed in order to put together one accurately labelled skeleton diagram.
*March 2024*
As part of our learning on the skeleton, we did a piece of artwork to delve deeper into the bones in our hands and fingers.
We created x-ray style art...
What do you think?

MINI TOPIC - ARGENTINA
To develop and extend our Spanish learning from P5, we did a mini topic on Argentina. We enjoyed this and learned lots from greetings, colours, numbers to locations on a map and famous landmarks. Here is what our display looked like once we had finished the topic!
*APRIL 2024*
Inspired by Argentine artist Milo Lockett, we designed our own pieces.
His style uses bright colours and simple lines or shapes. Animals feature a lot in his artwork.
*APRIL 2024*
*APRIL/MAY 2024*
We create our own display title.
Then we shared what we already know and what we'd like to learn.

PROJECT: WIND FARM/DEVELOPMENT SITE
We have been given the opportunity to do some work alongside Newlands Wind Farm Development Site. This week we took part in a school based workshop looking at the different blade types and the energy output they produce. We worked in groups to predict, investigate and then create what we thought would be the best blade.
We then tested them by using a hairdryer to see how much energy was outputted.
