France in the past was one kingdom, Francia. After a while Francia got divided into three kingdoms trough the treaty of verdun in 843, west francia,(france) middle francia("italy") and east francia(germany/hre). Later on middle francia became partitioned by east and west francia. West francia became france and east francia became the Holy Roman Empire(or the HRE for short). Much later in the 1790's, a short man named Napoleon helped along with the french revolution, which would kick the monarchy out of France from 1798 until 1815. After that france became a monarchy again until woah! Napoleons back from elba and he retook power, but that didn't last long, until after waterloo, then france became a monarchy again. And during the franco-prussian war france lost alcace-loreine. And during WW2 was when all the "france surrendur hahahaha" memes originated when france surrendered to germany, but later on(1943-1944 or smth idk) france started to become freed.

Germany on the other hand, has also had history. With the barbarians that invaded rome. But we aint gonna talk about that! Germany as a country started when east-francia became a thing in 843. East-francia later on became the kingdom of germany, then the HRE in 962, but when the HRE was formed it wasn't the broken piece of glass that we know it as, no it was smaller, but less divided, conatining places like bavaria, austria and parts of slovenia. Eventually, all the way over to 1806 when it was eventually disolved and became the confederation of the rhine(a french puppet state) and fell in 1813. After the napoleonic wars the german confederation was formed, was halted from 1848 to 1850 by the german empire(no not the ww1 one) and then lasted until 1866 and was followed by the north german confederation, which lasted until the end of the franco-prussian war in 1871 and became the german empire(yes the ww1 one) when baden, württemburg, bavaria and hesse(along with some free cities)with the constitution of the german confederation and the ceremonial proclemation of the german empire. that one lasted until 1918 with the treaty of verasilles that created the weimar republic. it did not go well with the weimar republic. it had to pay a butt-ton of reparations to the entente which it could not afford. if you think then "well why didn't they print money to pay the entente then?" then you'd be right as that's exactly what it did, but it just caused inflation and the german mark had basically become worthless. Sometime later in 1933 a silly austrian man with a funny moustache(adolf hitler) took power and became the sole leader of germany, turning it into the third reich(the german reich), into the greater german reich in 1942 and then it stopped existing in 1945 after the berlin declaration(although hitler killed himself on the 30th of april). From 1945 until 1949 when the uk, america and france decided to unite their occupation zones that they had from 1945 to 1949 into west germany(federal republic of germany) and the ussr, that also had an occupational zone turned theirs into east germany(german democratic republic(gdr). We'll skip ahead to 1990 when both germanies united into modern day germany sometime after the fall of the berlin wall.
