Sturgeon Public School Division will observe Pride Week from June 2 - 5, 2026.
Below are the activities, lessons and books that teachers will be sharing in their classrooms. We understand and respect that our community holds diverse views and are committed to fostering a dialogue that respects all perspectives.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom teacher or our administrative team.
Tuesday: all students will receive coloured strips of paper to write down or draw something they are proud of about themselves. These will all contribute to a large bulletin board to display a rainbow “quilt” of all our accomplishments!
Wednesday: Learn about the Pride Flag - this flag is a symbol of positivity, peace, pride, and diversity within the community. A reminder for everyone to be themselves, and accept others.
Thursday: students will talk about what inclusion means, and create a classroom display or poster symbolizing that students of Sturgeon Heights welcome everyone.
Friday: students are encouraged to wear as many colourful clothing as they can!
RUGBY
Our junior high rugby season always begins with a battle against the weather in April and May. Indoor training built fundamental skills necessary to transfer to the field. We have a massive group of grade 7 boys and grade 8 girls at our core. We had very strong leadership from Alex, Maddox, Hayleigh, Livia and McKenzi. We welcomed our grade 6's players with enthusiasm!
Our league play is all about learning the game and improving our core skills. We had three nights of exhibition play versus Michael Phair, Alex Janvier, Leduc, William D. Cuts, Hillgrove, Namao and Lorne Akins
The Sturgeon Heights Eagles have become a keystone squad at the final tournament. We brought two boys teams and one girls team. The girls had a short roster but with strong player management by our coaches the girls deservingly made it to the gold final. Alex Janvier was too strong to hold back in the final 7-minutes resulting in a loss. The girls won the silver medal at the Metro Tier 2 rugby finals.
The boys teams were comprised of two grade 9 players, a handful of grade 8's, a swathe of talented grade 7's and our grade 6 recruits. The boys senior squad went 2-1 in pool play loosing a very close match to Father Michael Troy. The two boys teams faced each other in the quarter final game which is always a fan favourite match-up. The senior boys went on to play in the bronze final and ultimately besting Father Michael Troy in a hard fought rematch. The boys played incredibly well, injecting strong support running and cunning tactics. The boys won the bronze medal game by crossing the line for a third and final try into extra minutes.
Mr. Robertson, Mr. Hudson and Coach Matt are incredibly proud of our efforts this season!
