Here’s to a great 2026–2027 school year
Dear Sturgeon Public Schools Families,
I am pleased to invite you to a Trustees & Superintendent Family Meet & Greet on Thursday, October 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Namao School.
This will be an open-house style, come-and-go evening, offering us an opportunity to connect with families from across Sturgeon Public Schools. Most importantly, it’s simply a chance to put faces to names, get to know one another and build relationships.
There will be no formal presentation or agenda. Come for five minutes or stay for the entire evening, whatever works for you and your family.
I look forward to meeting more of our Sturgeon Public Schools families and continuing to build strong relationships across our division.

SOMETHING NEW IN STURGEON
A new program will be ongoing: HYPE (Helping Young People Excel), Sturgeon School Division’s Mental Health Capacity Building program.
As part of our work supporting mental health and wellness across the division, HYPE will be putting together a monthly one-page newsletter - Hype In the Halls to share mental health news, resources, upcoming initiatives, and highlights from schools and communities across Sturgeon.
You will see the addition to our "weekly" once a month.
VOLLEYBALL UPDATES -
On Thursday September 24th, Sturgeon Heights played league games at
Lilian Schick School.
The Eagles volleyball teams left the Nest last night and tried their best to soar! The senior girls lost in 3 sets and the senior boys lost in 4 sets again strong Knights teams. Junior girls split sets with the junior Knights.
Both senior teams will look for another chance to soar at the SAPEC tournament today.

We still have several Yearbooks ordered last year to be picked up. Students may have left the school - siblings/friends here?
Spread the word, please. Please contact the school and the Yearbook will be sent home.
STITCHING CLUB
Stitching club began for this school year on Monday, September 21st. What a great turnout! Keep coming, each Monday - Mrs. Welke will be very happy to see you and help everyone get started on a project!
A big THANK YOU to our Junior Forest Wardens group for undertaking a clean up of the forest areas at the school. There are a handful of dead trees that they will bring down plus some of the trails have overgrown and need to be trimmed back slightly.
We appreciate and enjoy our connection with the Junior Forest Wardens.
"FIRE DRILLS"
As classes are getting organized, we are going to be having a couple of practice fire drills in the next few days.
Teachers have gone over the procedures, reasons why, etc. Students are aware we only do these practices to be prepared in case anything should happen and that students have no reason to worry.
Chopped Leaf Hot Lunch was a big hit this week!
Looking forward to Popeye's coming up on September 29th.

SNACK SHOP - GR 6 TO 9
The junior highs will be running a snack shop on Wednesdays & Fridays. Students from grade 6-9 can purchase treats from 12:00-12:20 noon.
Cash only! Coins preferred. The snack shop will be located across from Mr. Hudson's Room
(Room 122).
Dates upcoming October 2, 7, 9, 14 + 16.
CROSS COUNTRY RUN - SEPTEMBER 22
Our Sturgeon Heights Eagles were in full flight on Tuesday at Divisional Cross-country running! Our junior high teams represented SHS very well with: Audrey finishing in 1st place for grade 9 girls. Special shoutouts to Jaya, Joel, Jack and Maya.
Our elementary groups were fired up all morning and excited to put the Eagles top on. Sienna placed first over in grade 4. Garren placed in 7th, with Thatcher and Henry participating and Ice placed 8th. Lucas placed 5th in the grade 5 boys group with Riley placing 8th. Flora placed 2nd, Aubrey, Berklee and Ava all placing in the top 10. Our grade 6 girls really owned the podium.
CONGRATULATIONS to all our Eagles for their participation!
This year's poster contest theme is "Be Bright, Stand in Sight". Help keep our youngest riders safe by reminding them to be visible and make smart choices while waiting for the school bus. Wear bright clothing, stay in a safe zone where you can be easily seen, stay focused, and always keep a safe distance from traffic. Be Bright, Stand in Sight—safe students make safe rides!
The contest is open for Kindergarten to Grade 6 students.

LUNCH SUPERVISORS
Dear Sturgeon Heights Families,
We are currently seeking individuals interested in joining our team as lunch supervisors for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a paid position, with a start date of October 1, 2026. Responsibilities include supervising students during lunch and/or monitoring the playground during lunch recess. Strong communication skills and a passion for working with children are essential.
We have the following opportunities available:
Monday to Friday – 1 hour from 11:50 p.m. to 12:50 p.m.
Substitute Lunch Supervisors – as needed, 1 hour from 11:50 p.m. to 12:50 p.m.

We’re excited to welcome local author Lisa Marie Schiller to Sturgeon Heights for the launch of her new children’s book, The Travelling ABC’s! Join us on September 29 from 5:30–7:00 PM, with a special reading at 6:15 PM.
Families will have the chance to meet Lisa, hear a reading from the book, and have their copy personally signed. Family entry is $20 and includes one copy of the book, with additional copies available for $15.
Come pack your imagination and join us for an ABC adventure around the world!
