A farewell party was held for Dr. Syotaro Hiraiwa.

Starting in April, he will be heading abroad to study at the University of Tartu in Estonia.

We wish him all the best and great success in his new endeavor!

Ma-san prepared a delicious hot pot. It was quite spicy, but absolutely wonderful.

It was a lively and memorable gathering, joined by Professor Fujiwara and several former lab members who worked alongside Dr. Hiraiwa.

With this, he has achieved the impressive feat of receiving awards for both his Master’s and Doctoral theses.

February 2-5, 2026

We hosted students from Boğaziçi University (Turkey) as part of the Sakura Science Program for a laboratory experience.

During the program, Mr. Doruk ÜNSAL stayed with our lab. We hope this was a rewarding experience for him as well.

Doruk kindly brought us traditional Turkish coffee and authentic sweets. Everything was absolutely delicious! Teşekkür ederim (Thank you)!

Doruk worked on the live imaging of pupal legs. He is exceptionally bright and skillful, managing to acquire high-quality data in a very short time. It was truly impressive to see the caliber of a student from Turkey's top university.

Shotaro Hiraiwa was officially awarded his Ph.D.

Congratulations!

Dr. Hiraiwa was instrumental in establishing our live imaging techniques and conducted truly outstanding research during his time here.
