Project summary and project objectives
With this project we want to make our students and teacher more aware of skills they can use to enable effortless cross-cultural cooperation. We want them to have a strong positive cultural identity, and at the same time to see themselves as part of a larger whole in EU. The future job market will be dominantly in the service trade. We want to train our students to be more confident and culturally aware and to survive in such career paths, especially after all the anxiety caused by the pandemic
As more and international cooperation takes place online, instead of by travel, the part where you for a short period of time integrate into another culture and life is missing. This means that there is less development of cultural understanding or cultural awareness, as it is not as apparent on screen as in real life encounters. The pandemic has also made us more weary towards other people, as we can even see them as a threat. The cross-cultural learning process is the one that suffers the most when students don't meet in real life. After the pandemic we need to once again strengthen the students’ sense of belonging on a small scale as well as on a bigger scale. To see themselves as a part of a community, and not just as an individual. And we need to give teachers tools to help students with this.
Moreover, in today's Europe it is, now more than ever, of utmost importance to learn about different cultures and minorities and to improve our understanding and tolerance for diversity and other cultures. Only by systematically work towards improving students' cultural awareness (their own and other cultures) can we improve the understanding for other cultures and thereby fight the prejudice and xenophobia arising in today's Europe and improve the youths ability and willingness to work together to solve the serious problems of tomorrow’s society.
There are a lot of models out their for cultural awareness assessment, but they are not widely used in school. We want to change this and bring attention to the issue.
We want to create a model for cultural exchange in international projects online as well as in real life, to enable the efficient working, and to find tools for measuring acquired skills within intercultural understanding. We want to wake the interest and curiosity in cross-cultural encounters and cooperation.
In order to do this we need to put the students in cross-cultural situations where they can improve these mentioned skills. These situations need to be online as well as in real life, to see how meeting up for real affects your ability and motivation to work with people on the screen. For our students from all the different partner countries, from all walks of life, no matter cultural background. For this we need funding.
