Homework

Homework is an essential part of your child's education. Each Monday your child will bring home a Weekly Homework Log to track their weekly homework. Students need to read a 100 minutes a week. They may read independently, to an adult or sibling or take turns reading with someone. This should be an enjoyable process. The following Monday they will return the Weekly Homework Log filled in with the homework they completed. If they lose the log simply use a sheet a paper and fill out their Reading and Math minutes.

Students should also complete 30-60 minutes of math homework a week. This will also be tracked on the Weekly Homework Log. Sometimes a math sheet may come home, but usually homework will consist of Dreambox, Reflex, or Zearn. Kids can use the links on this website to access these sites. Students may also work on Fact Fluency as this is a crucial skill for 3rd graders. They may do flashcards or play math fluency games. Our end goal is for each student to learn their multiplication facts this year and can answer them quickly as well as strengthen their addition and subtraction facts. Please think ahead and plan out homework. I know how busy some nights can be. Think ahead which nights are busy and which nights they may have extra time. If you weeknights are always rushed then use Friday night or the weekend to get some math practice in. If your weekends are busy then plan to get it in on weeknights. I am flexible with the timing, but not with the amount. Remember the more your child works on their math facts and their math practice then the more confident they will be and the better they will do this year and beyond.
