PHS choir performing in 2017 at Carnegie Hall in NYC, waiting for the conductor, Dr. J Edmund Hughes
This is a non-audition choir - which means you can be a part whether you have been singing since before you could talk, or if you have never sung outside your shower! We are a very inclusive group but we also have high standards of excellence. This choir usually receives the highest available rating at our regional competition, and we expect to keep that tradition alive. We can't wait for you to come and join us either period in the most awesome class at school! Some years Concert Choir is 2 mixed SATB groups, some years it is one mixed group and one Treble Choir - SSA. If you don't know what that means, no stress. Just come sing with us - the reason you take a class is so that you learn! Concert Choir perform several times during the school year. All freshman start in Concert Choir, but we have some people from every grade level represented here. This is where you learn our choir culture, expectations, how to sight read, music theory, intonation, great vocal technique, strong team work and more! We have a lot of fun, work hard, and every year are amazed at what we achieve and how far we come.

2019 - Chamber Choir waiting to perform at contest
Chamber Choir is an auditioned group that meets during 2 periods. We expect students to have a strong work ethic and ability to learn challenging music quickly. We also have a LOT of fun - lots of trips, performances, and opportunities. This choir has also received top ratings the last few years, and has a tradition of doing unexpected, show stopping performances. Although this group is mostly upperclassman, anyone is welcome to audition. Part of the audition is a theory exam, and you are expected to have strong sight-reading and performance skills. Besides all of the performances of the Chamber Choir, these students audition for the All State and All NW Choirs, prepare audition repertoire for college, participate in Honor Choirs, and have the options of performing at Solo and Ensemble. Sometimes the Chamber Choir splits evenly and meets in two periods, and some years we have an Advanced Chamber Choir and a Chamber Choir. Advanced Chamber students are expected to be able to sight read well, prepare music on their own, and prepare for the AP Music Theory exam. Audition information for Chamber Choir is available on Schoology or on the Joining Choir link.
Show Choir is a class that meets 7th period, 2:05-3:15 Monday -Thursday. This is an audition only group that specialized in current music, usually acapella. Show Choir students are expected to also be members of one of the Chamber Choirs. The pace is quick and the expectations are high - and the performances are AWESOME. Audition information for Show Choir is available on Schoology or on the Joining Choir link.

This year, with all of the discombobulation of the cancellation, we understand there will be some extra time needed to make sure everyone is in the classes they need, and a part of the community they desire. Music is a balm to the soul, and choir is an incredible team that is helping to sustain many of us through this difficult season - we'd love for you to experience that support and expression. During the first few of weeks of school there are always a few students who weren't put into the choir they were supposed to be in - so please come talk to me, audition if required, and be a part of something AWESOME!! The best way to contact Mrs. Ellis is via email at ellisa@psd401.net.
Musical Theater (Spring Play Production) is a second semester class that Mrs. Ellis co-teaches with the amazing Mrs. Beloate. The Dream Team puts on the spring musical, and only students in the class are cast in the play. There is opportunity to be involved in the tech side of production if you cannot take the class by taking Mr. Bullock's Tech Theater class. Sign up for Spring Play Production (6th period) early! Like our choir classes, this class fills to capacity quickly, and there is often a waiting list. See you in the wings!

One of the most unique things about the PHS choir is how representative it is of the PHS community as a whole. We do it ALL! Here are just some of the things choir kids in the past couple of years have done, BESIDES choir:
Julia and Hannah cheering us on!
Sean and Giu last year at State - missing that Track season right now!
Kaleb and Emma on Signing Day - Emma swims like a fish, and Kaleb....
is a baller!!
Our Choir Vice President Luke made All-State Choir this year, but had to miss it because it was the same weekend as State Wrestling! When you are too good.....
Mason got write ups in the paper for both his football skills and his track and field skills, but it's his bass voice and ....
participation with Ben & Sean Unified Basketball that steals our hearts. Other choir kids doing Unified:
