Throughout the course, we'll explore effective ways to communicate with your child, the teacher, and the school community. We'll also provide opportunities for families to meet and form contact groups in person. We're excited to have you join us!
Communication
With Your Child's Teacher
I am always available to discuss your child's education. However, I will have 2 days set aside in October for scheduled conferences. Please feel free to schedule an additional conference. My contact information is on this web site and I'd be happy to talk to you. (Please check with your child's teacher if you have questions about your kindergarten student.)
Newsletters will go out every week. These newsletters are sent out by your child's grade level teacher. The Smore Newsletter will contain information from your child's grade level and you will get more specific information about your child's specific classroom from the email that contains the link to the Smore Newsletter. Please read the newsletter and let your child's teacher know if you have any questions.
Weekly, I will be posting photos of your child learning in the classroom and special events. I will also post announcements. This is a way for you to stay in touch with what your child is learning in school and to help you communicate with your child about his/her day.
You can also use this platform to reach out to me through messenger with any questions or concerns you might have. (Check with your child's kindergarten teacher on ways to communicate.)
Communication With Your Child
I often hear parents say that they don't know what their child does at school. Their child will not tell them how their day was. So, here is a few tips on how to find out more information about your child's day.
Look at your child's schedule that is provided by your child's teacher. After a while you will have it memorized. I just go through my child's day after I pick him up from school or even when my child gets home. I started asking questions. "What did you play in PE?" "Who did you play with at recess?" "What did you eat for lunch?" Then, I just turn that into a conversation. Sometimes, I will even sit with my child before he falls to sleep and we talk about what happened during his day. This has turned into a habit for him after being asked daily.
As a teacher, I post pictures to our Learning Management System which is SeeSaw. I put in the newsletter that I have posted pictures and I try to post pictures weekly. Then, parents can ask questions about what they see in the pictures. They can also do this with any work that I send home.
Most importantly, take the time to ask. Make time for this daily. This will show your child that school matters and that you care and are interested.
