Expectations
Grade Weights and Late Work Policy
An assignment is considered late when it is marked in the grade book as “Missing/Late” with a 0. If the assignment has no flags, and a blank score, it may be turned in and just not graded yet. Check your Google Classroom to be certain that the work is completed and turned in.
An assignment that is graded and marked “Incomplete” was turned in unfinished. To improve the grade by completing the assignment, detention must be served before resubmitting the assignment for regrading.
Late/Incomplete work is docked between 20-30% of the assignment's total points. This is the "Punctuality Points" section on rubrics. Students automatically earn these points by turning in work that is complete and on time.
Late/Incomplete homework can be turned in up until the last week of the quarter. Detention(s) must be served before the assignment(s) is/are graded.
Membean
Students will be required to complete 45 minutes of Membean every week. A Membean week runs from Friday to Friday beginning/ending at 3:00. A weekly grade will be taken out of 45 points for minutes spent on training. If the program has logged dubious minutes, they will be subtracted from your training minutes before being put in the grade book. A maximum of 5 bonus points will be added for 46-50 minutes in a week.
A second grade will go in as a percentage every week based on the student's accuracy. Membean is not about how quickly students move through words, but how well they can retain them. In English 10, the accuracy score will be out of 75 points. If a student earns at least a 75% accuracy for the week, his/her weekly accuracy score will be 75/75.
Communication
If you have any questions now or throughout the year, I will gladly answer in person, over the phone, or by email. My conference is during 8th period (1:33-2:15). I am often available in my room after school every day until 3:15. I encourage you to set up after-school appointments with me if you are struggling with a topic or an assignment.
In Case of Absence...
If students have to miss school and miss assignments, follow these guidelines for excused absences:
Students, please come to me to ask for missing paperwork and assignments. I will not hand them to you automatically. Always check Google Classroom.
You will have as many days plus one to complete the assignment as the rest of the class had the day it was originally assigned.
You are responsible for finding time to make up the lesson material taught on the day of the absence. BLT is a wonderful time to meet with me to learn about missed material.
If the absence is unexcused, I will still encourage students to complete the assignments they missed for credit.
Didn't like that last grade?
I am a firm believer that reading and writing are recursive; it takes practice to improve. If a student would ever like to redo an assignment that was turned in on time, they need only come talk to me. We will work to either improve the writing for a better score or redo the assignment. Please keep in mind that it is difficult to revise an entire quarter of work the day before grades are due. I encourage students to be vigilant in grade improvement throughout the quarter, not just at the end of it.
Guardian Summaries
With all Edgerton High Schools and Middle School students working one-to-one with Chromebooks, it can be difficult for parents to help their students keep track of assignment due dates or general announcements from teachers. Google Classroom offers daily or weekly (your choice) emails that include information about missing work, upcoming work, as well as announcements and questions recently posted by teachers. If you would like to receive Guardian Summaries from every Google Classroom your child is enrolled in, please fill out the following form.
If you are not sure if you are interested in Google Classroom Guardian Summaries, you can read more here.
