Accelerated Foundations of Literature and Composition
Accelerated English 9
9th grade is focused on the 9-10th grade band of the Common Core State Standards. Within these standards are many important skills such as analyzing different kinds of texts, creating and supporting arguments, and developing overall writing skills. These skills will be crucial for their success on the End of Course Exams (EOCs), which are necessary for graduation.

Accelerated English 9 vs. English 9
What's the difference?
In comparison to the general English 9 course, the Accelerated English 9 course requires intensive study of world literature, literary non-fiction, and various informational texts. This course requires careful, deliberate reading of texts that yields multiple meanings. The primary focus is independent close-reading skills and strategies; as such, students are expected to comprehend most texts on their own. The pacing of the Accelerated English 9 course places emphasis on independent work habits and more quickly prepares students for college writing assignments.
Grade Weights
Late Work
An assignment is considered late when it is marked in the grade book as “Missing/Late” with a 0. If the assignment has no flags, and a blank score, it may be turned in and just not graded yet. Check your Google Classroom to be certain that the work is completed and turned in.
An assignment that is graded and marked “Incomplete” was turned in unfinished. To improve the grade by completing the assignment, detention must be served before resubmitting the assignment for regrading.
Late/Incomplete homework can be turned in up until the last week of the quarter. Detention(s) must be served before the assignment(s) is/are graded.
Membean
Students will be required to complete 45 minutes of Membean every week. A Membean week runs Friday to Friday beginning/ending at 3:00. A weekly grade will be taken out of 45 points for minutes spent on training. If the program has logged dubious minutes, they will be subtracted from the training minutes before being put in the grade book. A maximum of 5 bonus points will be added for 46+ minutes in a week.
A second grade will go in as a percentage every week based on the student's accuracy. Membean is not about how quickly students move through words, but how well they can retain them. In Accelerated English 9, the accuracy score will be out of 80 points. If a student earns at least a 80% accuracy for the week, his/her weekly accuracy score will be 80/80.
Guardian Summaries
With all Edgerton High Schools and Middle School students working one-to-one with Chromebooks, it can be difficult for parents to help their students keep track of assignment due dates or general announcements from teachers. Google Classroom offers daily or weekly (your choice) emails that include information about missing work, upcoming work, as well as announcements and questions recently posted by teachers. If you would like to receive Guardian Summaries from every Google Classroom your child is enrolled in, please fill out the following form.
