Dr Foley became Australia’s ninth Chief Scientist in January 2021 after an extensive career at CSIRO, including as the agency’s Chief Scientist. She is an internationally recognised quantum physicist with major research achievements in superconductors and sensors which lead to the development of the LANDTEM sensor system to locate valuable deposits of minerals deep underground. Dr Foley is an inspiration to women in STEM across the globe and focused strongly on equality and diversity in the science sector. She led Australia's quantum revolution in her term as Australia's Chief Scientist.
Chris Ferrie is an associate professor at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia, where he researches and lectures on quantum physics, computation, and engineering. He is the co-founder of Eigensystems, a quantum computing start-up with a mission to democratize access to quantum computing through education. As the #1 best-selling science author for kids, he has written over fifty children’s books about science and a few for adults.
Bernadette is the executive director of a leading cybersecurity company specialising in authentication solutions. With over two decades of experience in the cybersecurity industry, Bernadette has been instrumental in driving the strategic vision of Cogito Group. With quantum computers hitting the market in your lifetime, the people at Cogito Group are getting ready to combat encryption which will be the 'super powers' of a quantum computer.
Pavlina is a scientist at the University of Queensland. Her journey began as a molecular biologist studying the building blocks of life but now she works in a new emerging field of science called quantum biotechnology. Right now, she's working on a cutting-edge project to help catch cheating in sports. She's trying to find the tiniest traces of drugs that athletes might use to unfairly boost their performance.
Tim is a strategic advisor with Amazon Web Services. He focuses on which technologies are needed in the future to build the digital economy. He is particularly interested in innovative thinking and has worked with the federal government to develop policies related to technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and quantum computing.
Ben is a physicist who is using quantum sensing devices and technologies in his research of dark matter. He supervises PhD students and leads several projects related to dark matter experiments that occur deep underground. Ben is also a science communicator and enjoys speaking to young people about this emerging field.
