Student Composed Questions are an excellent way to get students to think about what they have learned through the lens of being the teacher. The questions can be levelled from fact-based or true/false, all the way up to higher order thinking with analysis and synthesis. These questions can demonstrate what students think is the critical focus in a lesson or unit, and can show their level of understanding by evaluating the questions they think could be asked of them.

Student Composed Questions can help teachers:

• Gain insight into student understanding as they take on the role of teacher

• Forumulate their own summative questions for a class

• Get students to work together in peer assessment by allowing students to answer and evaluate each others composed questions

• Students can write a practice quiz over several classes by creating one or two questions after each lesson. These can be shared around as review for a summative task

• The questions students write should be varied between recall knowledge and higher level thinking

• Students can create word problems to demonstrate their understanding of what information needs to be provided to answer a question

• Students can work in partners or small groups to try to 'stump' one another

• Students can create an answer key for their questions
