Taking the teacher out of the assessment can allow students to get a view of their own learning, allowing them to reflect and adjust if need be.
Self/Peer Assessment can help teachers:
By being a quick 1-5 understanding check so students have to think about their confidence on certain topics, or it can be short answer, descriptions, drawing, solving a problem, etc.
allowing students to be honest about their learning progression
allowing students to get feedback from someone other than their teacher
allowing students to gain a better global view of their work within their own class
Things to Try:
As a class, create their own rubrics to evaluate themselves or their partner/group
Allow the students some insight into your own marking by providing your own rubric to be used for self-assessment
Students can evaluate their partner/group self-feedback and can provide peer feedback on that!
Use this opportunity to ensure students understand the assignment or task and are able to identify the critical components
Provide feedback to the students on their assessments to correct any misconceptions regarding the assignment or task
