The word 'Quiz' has several connotations, and for students none of them are positive! A Relief Quiz is where students can breathe a sigh of relief that this quiz won't be marked. These quizzes can be named or anonymous, depending on the need. They should have a generous time allowance, and will only be scored by providing feedback.

Relief Quizzes can help teachers:

• Keep student responses anonymous to allow the collection of honest class data without students identifying themselves

• By being versatile. They can be done via paper, Kahoot!/Online Tool, or can even be given as take-home tasks

• Assess over several class periods, students can be given their original quiz and be allowed to make corrections or edits as they gain understandings

• Provided feedback. If the quizzes are anonymous you would provide class-wide feedback. If named, you could provide specific, targeted feedback to individuals.

• Use digital tools such as Kahoot! to help students engage in the material on their own time, in lower pressure situations

• Keep the quiz anonymous if you want to gather quick, snapshot data

• Name quizzes if you would like to gather data over time to evaluate strengths and weaknesses

• Make Relief Quizzes a classroom norm, if used sporadically students may not be certain the pressure is actually off!

• Students can create their own quizzes as well! Small groups or pairs can share their quizzes and help their partners,
