There is a risk that teachers will recycle tasks, rubrics and units of work from the previous courses and frameworks. These tasks and units may not reflect the changes and students will not receive the learning to which they are entitled and the Board has approved.
Teachers should review units of work on a regular basis to ensure currency and appeal to the cohort being taught.
The new requirements should be reviewed to see what changes are required to existing units of work. New programs of learning and rubrics should be developed, even if they draw on previous units of work. Teachers should ensure they are teaching the current course and not the previous course.
If the command terms and the scope of questions are not aligned to the achievement standards, students will not be clearly directed to the level of thinking required to achieve high grades.
Questions should be thoughtfully and strategically worded to direct students to work at the level and scope expected.
