Reading is a life-long skill, and it doesn't have to be a struggle. On this page, you can find book recommendations, online databases, and more resources to support your student through their reading journey.
One of the best ways to support your student's reading struggles is by encouraging reading in their home environment. Reading for 20 minutes a day at home can set good habits and a better relationship with reading overall.

Originally created as a tool for audience members to avoid watching movies with emotional animal deaths, DoesTheDogDie.com has expanded to serve as a warning for potentially upsetting topics like violence, alcoholism, car crashes, animal death, and more. This website covers media such as books, movies, TV series, and video games.
Goodreads is a website by Amazon that helps you discover new books and track the books you've already read. You can make a free account and set yearly reading goals for yourself and for your student.
Heggerty explores one crucial part of reading: phonemic awareness, which is ability to understand that spoken words are made up of individual sounds called phonemes. Being able to understand phonemes is vital to a student's reading success.
PBS Kids is a great page for activities and TV series aimed at improving reading, especially in the areas of vocabulary, pattern-recognition, comprehension, and more.
Reading Rockets offers many different activities to help students learn how to read. Their resources target fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. Reading Rocket also includes articles to inform grown-ups how to help their children become better readers.
Vooks has an entire library of online storybooks with fun animation, read-aloud narration, music and sound effects, and read-along text. This is a great resource for improving vocabulary, fluency, and focus, as well as providing an opportunity for social-emotional learning.
