In Military Studies 15, students critically analyze real-world conflicts while developing leadership and communication skills. Military Studies 25 expands on these foundations, exploring key themes in world military history, with a focus on Western warfare’s impact on global affairs. From ancient battle tactics to evolving military technology, this course equips students with historical insight and strategic thinking skills for an increasingly complex world.
MILITARY STUDIES 15 (3 credits) In Military Studies 15 students will inquire into, explore, assess, and evaluate the origins of the military. Throughout Military Studies 15 students will grapple critically with real world problems/conflicts, assess and evaluate military solutions and in the process hone their communication, leadership and decision-making capabilities as informed, responsible and competent Canadians in an increasingly conflict fraught and complex global context.
MILITARY STUDIES 25 (3 credits) Military Studies 25 Introduces students to some of the principal themes and events in world military history from the prehistoric era up to the gunpowder revolution (up to and including the founding of Canada). While some attention is given to non-western military history, there is a decided prejudice toward the western experience, in part, due to the profound impact Western warfare has had upon historic and contemporary world affairs. This pattern has continued into the twenty-first century and which, undoubtedly, will continue in the future. Moreover, while this class obviously focuses upon events and individuals there will also be a focus on technology, knowledge and strategies that evolved as a consequence of military involvements.
