Gov. Evers signed the Wisconsin Act 86 into law, creating a driver education grant program to pay the costs of driver education courses for certain low-income eligible students at approved driver education providers. The program covers a driving school’s fees for 30 hours of classroom time, six hours of observation, and six hours of behind-the-wheel driver training. The tuition will be paid directly to the driving school. The funds will be made available to eligible applicants on a first-come, first-served basis until the available funds are depleted. AWARE is a grassroots program created in 1998 to address the needs of Evansville’s growing low-income population. AWARE’s services benefit struggling families, seniors and disabled adults who reside within the Evansville Community School District. Although we are a program of Community Action, AWARE’s focus groups and surveys ensure that we address the Evansville community’s truest needs. All financial and in-kind contributions to AWARE are fully tax-deductible and invested 100% in our community to help local friends, families and neighbors in need.
Aware also runs the snack packers program. This program provides children with free and nutritious foods each weekend throughout the school year. Food is packed into lunch bags and distributed to students in grades 4K-12 at their school. ECSD students who qualify for free and reduced lunch are eligible for this program.
