How It Works!

The Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship program integrates school-based and work-based learning. Participants will continue taking high school or technical college courses while working as an apprentice at a participating local business. Discussion with Ms. Gard and school counselors help a student choose an option that best meets his or her needs and career goals.

Current Junior and Seniors- Interested in a Career in Fire Science?!

Start Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Fire Training now!

Motivated high school students can learn skills today for an EMR or Fire Technician job tomorrow. Fire departments need you. The training you’ll receive at Madison College prepares you for immediate job placement. The NextGen Responders Academy courses are available to any Wisconsin high school junior or senior. Each student must come prepared to work hard and work as a team in this fast-paced, hands-on experience. We push students to see what they are capable of and have fun doing it.

You will gain real-world experience and have the opportunity to talk with current and former fire department representatives and students. Upon completing both the EMR and Fire Recruit Academies students will be certified for the following:

Firefighter 1
Firefighter2
Hazardous Materials Operations Level
Nationally Registered Emergency Responders
CPR and Early Defibrillation

Current Junior and Seniors- Interested in becoming a CNA?

Start your Certified Nursing Assistant training now!

Motivated high school students can learn skills today to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Nursing Assistant courses are available to EHS students through Madison College, Blackhawk Technical College, and Quality CNA. Students will complete the nursing assistant course and then sit for the state certified nursing exam to become CNA certified. Current Junior and Seniors- Interested in becoming an EMT?

Start your Certified EMT Training now!

Motivated high school students can learn skills today to become a Certified Emergency Medical Technician. Emergency Medical Technician course is available to EHS students through Mercyhealth Prehospital & Emergency Services Center. Students must be at least 16 to start the course and be turning 17 by the completion of the course to be able to sit for the EMT State examination.
