Grades & Classes

Q: Can I view my child’s grades and attendance online?

  • A: Yes! All you’ll need to do is register a parent account on the FOCUS Gradebook Portal. Follow the instructions on the FOCUS Grades tab at the top of the page.

Q: How can I find out my child’s classwork & homework assignments?

  • A: Each teacher in our school maintains a classroom webpage, which they use to list information about assignments, homework, and important dates. These class webpages can be accessed by clicking “Faculty” in the “Faculty & Staff” tab on our school’s website (www.ferrypassmiddle.org) and locating the teacher on the list. Click the teacher’s name to view their class webpage. You can also email the teachers by clicking the envelope icon beside their names.

Q: How can I schedule a conference with my child’s teachers?

  • A: There are two ways to request a conference. Request one online by completing the form on the Guidance page of our school’s Website or on the "Schedule A Conference" tab at the top of this page. Alternately, you may call the Guidance Secretary to make a conference appointment.

Q: How can I request a change in my child's schedule?

  • A: Your child may come to the guidance office to pick up a schedule change form, starting the second week of school (Aug. 14, 2017). These forms must be completed at home and will not be accepted without a parent/guardian signature. Be sure to fill out the form completely, including the reason for requesting the change. The student may then return their form to the guidance office. Schedule changes are made on a seats-available basis and must still allow for the student to be enrolled in all the necessary core/required classes. Schedule changes are usually not done until after the first full-length week of school, and students should not make return trips to the guidance office to "check on" the status of their request. If the change is going to be possible, they will either be called to guidance or will receive an updated, changed schedule in Homeroom on the day following their request being processed. If you have further questions regarding schedule changes, please contact one of our counselors.

Q: What are the criteria for middle school completion and promotion to high school?

  • A: To be promoted to high school, students must complete and pass three years of Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies courses in middle school. Additionally, students must have an overall cumulative GPA of 2.0 for their middle school coursework. You can read much more on this topic by clicking HERE.

Q: I think my student may have special needs and/or need to be tested for gifted or ESE status. What do I do?

  • A: If you have any concerns that your student may need any sort of extraordinary/exceptional testing, status, or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact one of our counselors to discuss your student's unique circumstance. Both of our counselors are trained and equipped to help identify and meet student needs of many kinds.

Attendance

Q: What should I do when my child is absent from school?

  • A: Within three (3) days of your child’s return to school, you will need to complete an Absence Verification Form. These forms are available online by visiting the school district website at www.escambiaschools.org and clicking the “Absence Verification Form” link on the orange Families tab. Paper copies of the form are also available in the front office. If your child was seen by a doctor during his or her absence, a letter from the doctor should be sent in with the completed form.

Q: What do I do if my child is late to school?

  • A: Students who are arriving to school after 9:14a.m. must be checked in through the front office.

Q: How can I collect make-up work for my child during an absence?

  • A: When your child is absent, be sure sure to check the classroom webpages of each of his or her teachers to get information on missed assignments. You may also call the school’s guidance office and ask for work to be collected there for you to pick up in person.

Cafeteria

Q: What are the meal prices?

  • A: For the 2017-2018 school year, all students at Ferry Pass Middle School are pre-qualified to receive the standard school breakfast and lunch for free. This includes only the standard school lunch items. Special “a la carte” items may still be available for purchase. Any students wishing to purchase a la carte items must have money to buy them. These items may include chips, ice cream, bottled juices, or other items and are subject to availability. No charging is allowed for a la carte items, and prices are subject to change.

Q: How can our family apply for free or reduced lunch for our children at other schools?

Scroll down to links beginning with F, and click “Free & Reduced Meal Application.” Finish the application at the Horizon site. Applications online are usually processed within three days.

Change of Address

Q: Our family has moved. How do I change our address on file?

  • A: If you have moved, you need to bring a copy of a new proof of residence to the front office for us to be able to change information in the computer. We can accept a water bill, power bill, property tax bill, lease agreement, or mortgage payment or rental receipt.

Q: We are living with family/friends/others, and the utilities are not in our name. What do we do?

  • A: Bring in the utility bill statement showing your residential address. In addition, bring a letter from the person whose name is on the bill. This letter need not be fancy or long, but should include the names of the student and the parent/guardian, and should indicate that those people do reside at the address on the bill. The letter should be dated and signed by the person whose name is on the bill. Letters of this manner may be either typed or hand-written.

Q: Our family has moved outside the Ferry Pass Middle zone. What should I do?
