FAFSA
To apply for federal student aid, such as federal grants, work-study, and loans, you need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing and submitting the FAFSA is free and easier than ever, and it gives you access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college or career school.
In addition, many states and colleges use your FAFSA information to determine your eligibility for state and school aid, and some private financial aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid. All students planning to attend college should complete the FAFSA. Here are some helpful tips for completing the FAFSA:
Each student and one parent should apply for a FSA ID at fsaid.ed.gov. Make sure to keep a record of the parent’s and student's email addresses, their answers to the security questions, and both FSA IDs/passwords. Keep this information in a secure place. You'll need this information to sign the FAFSA.
The FAFSA has been redesigned and students will be able to submit their FAFSA as of December 1, 2023 (last date given but we will keep students updated!)
CFNC has a NC FAFSA hub with great information!
