EDENTON-CHOWAN SCHOOLS EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2025
Roy Lee Ashley, Sr. Technical: One of the first employees at Regulator Boats, Mr. Ashley was considered a skilled gelcoater and exemplary employee for many years. This scholarship is intended for a student who wishes to further his or her education in a technical field at a community college, boat building preferred. $1000, awarded once,chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
Mr. Eric Bergevin Memorial: Eric Bergevin was a much loved and respected community member who was well known for his generosity of spirit and ability to facilitate greatness in others. $1000, awarded once, chosen by the Eric Bergevin Scholarship Committee.
Josie Ruth Wheeler Carr: Established by the late Mr. Raymond Carr through a bequest in his will in memory of his wife to provide financial assistance to any graduate of John A. Holmes High School, regardless of intended career field. Candidates must have attended JAH for at least 2 years and must maintain a 3.0 GPA to maintain the scholarship throughout college. Awardee is chosen based on need, qualities of leadership, good citizenship, force of character and merit, community spirit, and scholarship. Students are not restricted by race, color, creed, or gender. $3000, granted each year for up to 4 years, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
Anna Lee Chesnut: A scholarship that is supported by the American Legion Auxiliary Edward G. Bond, Unit 40. Candidates should have a 3.5 GPA, have been accepted to an accredited higher learning college / program, and participated in community service in Chowan County. $600, awarded once, chosen by the American Legion Auxiliary Edward G. Bond, Unit 40 Scholarship Committee.
Chowan Change Agents: Eligible candidates will plan to enroll in a community college training program in the fields of manufacturing or healthcare. $500, awarded once, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee .
Chowan County Fair: Funded by the Chowan County Fair Board, awarded to any senior, preference given to those who have been involved in the Fair. $300, awarded once, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
Mr. Ralph V. Cole Sr. Educational Leadership: Mr. Ralph V. Cole,
Sr. served as an educator in the Edenton-Chowan School System for 37 years. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in Education. Priority will be given to an applicant
wishing to attend ECSU. $1000, awarded once, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
Mr. John Dowd Honorarium: John Dowd is a local community member
who is known for his generosity of spirit and love for the people of Edenton. This
scholarship will be awarded to a senior who is planning on majoring in Education at
ECU, $500, awarded once, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
Edenton Cotton Mill: Awarded to a college-bound highschool senior who is a documented member of an Edenton Cotton Mill family and who has also demonstrated academic achievement, financial need, and a record of community service. Candidates must reside in Chowan County and be enrolled in a two or four year college or university. $1000, awarded once, chosen by the Edenton Cotton Mill Museum Scholarship Committee.
Edenton Lions Club: Two scholarships available. One for a student who plans to enroll in a four year college and one for a student who plans to enroll in a two year community college or trade school. Preference may be given to students who participated in the Leo program. $1000 each, awarded once, chosen by Edenton Lions Club Scholarship Committee.
Bess Harrell Little Memorial: Bess Little was a much beloved teacher at White Oak School, known for her kind heart and generosity of spirit. She was also an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Candidates should be the child of an Edenton-Chowan Public Schools employee and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. $1000, awarded once, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
Coach Jerry McGee: Named for Coach Jerry McGee, who was a much loved, long-time football coach for JAH. Established by a group of his former players, cheerleaders, managers and friends, this scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior athlete from John A. Holmes. 2.5 GPA and sport participation required. $1000, awarded once, chosen by Jerry McGee Scholarship Committee.
Kristopher F. Lewis Captain’s Choice Award: Honors graduating seniors who exemplify strong character, selflessness, and a deep commitment to serving others. This scholarship recognizes students who lead with integrity, dedication, and a heart for their community. Seniors who embody these values are encouraged to apply. Two scholarships for $1000 each will be awarded once, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
Mulberry Hill Women's Golf Association: Granted to a senior on the John A. Holmes golf team who is planning to continue their education post highschool. $300, awarded once, chosen by the JAH Golf Team Coach.
My Custom Swag: Sponsored by Mr. Ronnie Bates, owner of My Custom Swag. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and continuously demonstrate high levels of character, honor, and leadership. $500, awarded once, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
Helen P. Robinson Memorial: Established by Mr. James M. Robinson to honor the memory of his wife, Ms. Helen P. Robinson, a nurse who devoted her life to the healthcare profession. It is to provide financial assistance to graduates of John A. Holmes High School who are pursuing an education in the Medical field. Candidates must be enrolled in a two or four year college or university. $1000, awarded once, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
Willie Love Morgan and Charles Henry Shaw: Named for Willie Love Morgan Shaw and Charles Henry Shaw. Members of Edenton United Methodist Church, they desired to establish a scholarship to benefit students in Chowan County. $500, awarded once, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
Spruce Family: Designed to encourage and support a student studying Machine Technology at a community college or a 4 year Mechanical Engineering major. $1250, awarded once, chosen by ECEF Scholarship Committee.
