Reading Lists
Dear Ector County Parents/ Guardians,
In an effort to keep our ECISD students engaged in literacy, students are expected to read one novel per six-weeks cycle from the following district-approved grade level lists.
This novel should be read in its entirety before school starts. This will ensure that the student is well-prepared to engage in classroom discussions, complete assignments over their chosen book, and is ready to begin the year with the rigor of our district curriculum.
Our main purpose for summer reading is to foster a love for reading and encourage students to make reading a life-long habit. Giving year-long access to high interest books and providing an opportunity for students to read for enjoyment throughout the year is essential to their reading growth and success. Reading is an important skill to practice year-round.
TIPS FOR PROPER BOOK CARE
Keep books away from food and beverages. Please have snacks before or after reading your book and keep it away areas where food is served.
Keep books away from younger siblings who might scribble in, or tear books.
Keep books away from pets.
Turn pages carefully from the top or bottom right corners.
Make sure your hands are clean when reading your book.
Protect the spine of the book by always using a bookmark rather than placing it face down with the pages open.
Always use a bookmark instead of turning down pages. Do not use objects not meant to be bookmarks, such as pencils. Anything too thick will break the book's spine.
Designate a particular place in your house to store your book and be prepared to return to the 2020-2021 school year with your book.
