The Texas Education Code Chapter 28, Section 28.016, outlines that all middle school students will take CCMR or an equivalent class to provide information on creating a 4 year plan for high school. Further, TEC Section 28.02121 also states that these plans will be reviewed during a student's 9th grade year and must be signed by a parent or guardian before the end of 9th grade.
8th grade students will access School Links in all CCMR and Principles of Business, Marketing and Finance classes. Students are required to choose a Career Pathway. When a Career Pathway is chosen it will then determine the students Endorsement and a Plan of Study for High School.
If your student is undecided on which career pathway they are interested in, School Links provides a personality assessment that they can take which will help offer suggestions on which careers best fit their personality.
Step 1:
Career Pathway & Endorsement Selection is chosen by student in class by the first week of November. May also start selecting Plan of Study courses for high school as well.
Step 2:
Middle School Counselors will begin Four Year Plans the second week of November. These Four Year Plans are entered in on a different program than School Links, so they may look slightly different than what you have reviewed with your child at home online.
Students will bring the Four Year Plans that they completed with the middle school counselor home for review and parent/guardian signatures.
Changes can be made to their Four Year Plans at the middle school level through the second week of January.
Step 3:
Four Year Plans will be sent to the High School by the end of January.
In February, a paper will be sent home that details the classes the student has requested to take in 9th grade. There will be a one-week window for students to request a change in these courses. After that window, no requests for schedule or course changes will be accepted.
