About me
My name is Sharlene Neuls. I am the School Counselor at Honor Elementary School. Go Bobcats! I am absolutely thrilled to see all of our Bobcats this 24-25 school year! A little about me, I was born In San Antonio and raised in Converse, Texas! After graduating from Judson High School, I earned my B.A. in Psychology, M.Ed. in School Counseling and M.A in Community Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Go Runners! Prior to becoming a Professional School Counselor, I specialized in working with children in foster/adoptive care for 5 years. I loved helping children find their forever home whether that meant a new home or reunification. I then enjoyed 7 years teaching middle school students English Language Arts. This year will be my 3rd year as an Elementary School Counselor. When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and son. You can find us at a basketball court almost every other weekend! I'm looking forward to a amazing year with an all star group of kids at Honor Elementary!
My Role
My primary role is to help all students reach their full potential by providing a comprehensive school counseling program that meets their academic, social/emotional, and career development needs. I conduct monthly classroom guidance lessons, and am available to meet with students individually and in small groups as needed.
My counseling philosophy and approach is based upon Solution Focused Brief Counseling. Due to the duration of the school day and solution oriented techniques related, I find this counseling approach effective and helpful. As a school counselor I am unable to diagnose or provide long-term therapy. In addition, school counseling isn't a clinical model. I'm able to provide temporary/short-term counseling support to help students overcome barriers that have an impact on school performance. In the instance ongoing or long term therapy would be beneficial, I can provide a list of outside agencies and licensed mental health counselors who provide services virtually and in person.
