About Evergreen Community Church
History of Evergreen
Evergreen Community Church will be celebrating 50 years of ministry in Fort McMurray in 2026. We began as Fort McMurray Christian Reformed Church in 1976 when a small group of Christians began to gather for worship in a duplex in Beacon Hill. After a few moves, land was obtained on Tundra Drive and construction commenced in the spring of 1988. The expected completion date was August 15th but on June 24th, the church building burned to the ground. Thanks to God and many willing hands, clean up and rebuilding continued at a steady pace and the church opened for Christmas Day service, with the official opening in January 1989. Today, Evergreen continues as a community of believers who love God and each other and are committed to living lives pleasing to God, serving each other in our church and our community.
We Believe
We are a congregation of the Christian Reformed Church of North America. We believe that the bible is the authoritative Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and given to each person as the absolute truth to guide our Christian beliefs and living. We believe that God is the one true God who has revealed himself to the world as Father, Son and Holy Spirit through the Word of God and the person of Jesus Christ. We believe that it is only Jesus, through his death and resurrection who can make us right with God. We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of God who draws us to faith in Jesus and strengthens our faith.
We invite you to come to Evergreen to hear the Word of God, believe that Jesus Christ died for you and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you as you grow in knowledge and willingness to live your life for God.
