We’ve spent the past two years in University Technology Sydney's Deep Green Biotech Hub Algae Accelerator, an intensive program backed by grant funding and investor connections. Our work has been recognised through the Valerie Taylor Ocean Prize, supporting our Algae in Schools project to bring hands on algae education into classrooms. In 2023, we took our algae mainstream bringing live activations to the Splendour in the Grass Science Tent, showcasing its potential in front of thousands.

Integrative Biotech for Natural Immunity: A Proof of Concept in Algal Insect Aquafeed.
East Coast Algae has initiated a research collaboration proposal with Southern Cross University to explore a novel aquafeed concept that combines its proprietary immune-boosting microalgae strain with insect biotechnology. The goal is to develop a sustainable feed alternative that reduces antibiotic use in aquaculture and addresses antimicrobial resistance. By inviting SCU as a research partner, ECA seeks to co-design a proof of concept trial that aligns with SCU’s strategic priorities and opens pathways for impactful, community-engaged science and innovation. The Microalgae Project.
Designed for primary and secondary classrooms, the project empowers students to collect and study microalgae from local water sources using a provided kit, fostering curiosity, environmental awareness, and scientific thinking. It emphasises real world science without the need for a lab, connecting biology, environmental studies, and even art through custom videos, posters, and worksheets. With minimal preparation for teachers and strong links to STEM outcomes, the program supports biodiversity research, pollution monitoring, and biotechnological exploration, all while sparking a lasting connection to nature.
