Aquaponics 1 is a STEM class in which the goals are to promote STEM awareness and confidence, and utilizing nontraditional farming while growing plants and fish in an indoor lab setting. Areas of focus are research and development, water quality testing, plant nutrition and testing, the fundamentals of aquaponics, fish nutrition and health, leadership skills, using technology, science inquiry, and standard operational procedures.Â
Manager Roles
Testing Manager: Testing and Water quality documentation
Botanist: Caring for all plants from the seed to the harvest; plant research and data documentationÂ
Plant Nutritionist: Researches and monitors plant health and conducts nutrition testing on all crops; data documentation
Zoologist: Caring for all fish in the labs; monitoring growth; monitoring feeding and nutrition valuesÂ
Systems Manager: Conducting all tasks needed to assure that the systems are properly maintained and working; repairing issues with the systems.Â
Media and Communications: Reporting past and current events; maintaining aquaponics website and instagram; creating monthly newsletter; school and community involvement
Accountant : Inventorying all supplies and monitoring the "working" budget
Data Analyst: Graphs all required data and confirms that all managers record data properly.
Chief Engineer: Overseeing all aspects of Engineering and Design; Facilitator of the engineering team with research, preparing business and project proposals, and designing models
Maintenance: Insuring that biosecurity is maintained at all times; assisting with repairs in the labs
