The students created a brick wall showing value, repetition and pattern using their charcoal. The students then demonstrated emphasis by creating colorful graffiti lettering that contrasted with the achromatic background.

The goal for this exercise was for the students to learn about one of the Principles of Art, Balance. The students were challenged to demonstrate symmetrical balance by folding a piece of paper in half and only dripping water color on one half. By pressing the other side onto the drippings, the student created a symmetrical design.
We started with this photo of a falcon. If you look closely, you'll notice each square in the grid has a tiny number in the upper left corner. That's because it is also a puzzle. Every student was assigned a number referring to a puzzle piece. After trimming blank paper into an 8x8 square, each of us looked closely at only our assigned piece and drew the lines, shapes and light and dark areas (value) within the assigned area. Everyone took a photo with their Chromebook, submitted through Google Classroom and the finished pieces and the puzzle was photoshopped together! #VirtualArt
