The students created a brick wall showing value, repetition and pattern using their charcoal. The students then demonstrated emphasis by creating colorful graffiti lettering that contrasted with the achromatic background.
For this exercise, the students were challenged to create a work similar to George Rodrigue. They were to draw an animal using minimal details, and use contrasting colors for the animal and the background.

We started with this photo of a falcon. If you look closely, you'll notice each square in the grid has a tiny number in the upper left corner. That's because it is also a puzzle. Every student was assigned a number referring to a puzzle piece. After trimming blank paper into an 8x8 square, each of us looked closely at only our assigned piece and drew the lines, shapes and light and dark areas (value) within the assigned area. Everyone took a photo with their Chromebook, submitted through Google Classroom and the finished pieces and the puzzle was photoshopped together! #VirtualArt
