Below you will find a list of Frequently Asked Questions that may answer your questions and concerns. If you do not see what you are looking for, please contact Mrs. Anding at emurray@ebrschools.org or call the school at 225-356-4306 and ask to speak with the library.
What time is the library open?
The library opens at 7:10 am in the morning and stays open until 2:40 pm. As long as Mrs. Anding is in the library the library is open. NO students are to be in the library if she is not in there. The school and Mrs. Anding require that students have a hall pass during class hours. They may come without a note during lunch and after school.
What materials does the library have?
The library has a large collection of library books, textbooks, and audiovisual equipment that can be checked out by faculty members and students. Most library books circulate for a two week time period. We lost a large amount of our books and materials during the August 2016 floods but all items that could be saved were cleaned and have been returned to the school. The library program was also extremely lucky to get a large amount of books donated after the flood, which were eventually put into the system, as well as a grant for $15,000 that the district wrote for the school. When North Banks Middle merged with Glen Oaks Magnet High School, the library was also given the collection from Broadmoor Middle School, which closed at the same time. This means that there are plenty of physical books at both the middle and high school levels for the students to enjoy, as well as thousands of e-Books in the school's MackinVia collection.
Where is the library located?
The library is in the new E building/administration building. It faces onto the new courtyard that was created during the renovations.
How many books can a student check out at once?
In a typical situation a student can check out 2 books at a time. If a student has a special situation they need to discuss it with Mrs. Anding who, if she finds it an acceptable reason, would have to override the 2 book limit.
Can a student return a book from another school to the library and/or pay a debt for another school?
Yes, a student can do both of these. However, Mrs. Anding insists that the student be prepared to stay with her until she has completed the process. They should never just drop the book off in the book bin and leave, and this is the reason why: When a student returns a book, Mrs. Anding will put the book in a sealed envelope and then sent it via the school's internal mail system to the appropriate school. She will then add a "Patron Note" to the student's account stating that the student returned the book to Glen Oaks and that she was putting it in the mail. This is for the student's protection. If for some reason the book fails to get to the correct school there is then clear evidence that the student returned the book and should not be charged for it upon graduation and/or leaving the district.
How does a student pay a library debt?
Mrs. Anding is not allowed to keep change in the library so it is advised that a student bring exact change OR be prepared to wait as Mrs. Anding attempts to exchange the money for different bills. (There is no guarantee that she will be able to do this.) Please pay in the morning to the best of your ability since Mrs. Anding is required to turn in money to the front office no later than 11:00 am. A student will be printed a receipt from the school's catalog. If a student finds the item and wishes to get a refund she can directly turn the money back to the student but if the money has been deposited at the bank then a refund check will have to be issued. This process will take 1-2 weeks so please be aware.
How much does it cost to print in the library?
The library's policy is that a student can print up to 3 pages for free each day. After that they must pay $0.10 per page to continue printing. The library program just got a brand new heavy-duty laser jet printer for the students to use!
