Human CRISPR Sources

In November 2018 a scientist in China ( He Jiankui, a researcher from Shenzhen’s Southern University of Science and Technology) announced that he had been involved in the genetic manipulation of two unborn children. These identical twin girls were modified and born in October 2018 in China. The stated reason for the modification is that it makes it impossible for them to ever get AIDS.

What most people think is OK: Manipulating the genes/DNA of people to treat that person's specific disease. This is known as Gene Therapy. A person with Muscular Dystrophy, for example, could be treated by altering the genes in that person's muscles.

What people are debating: Is it okay to manipulate the genes/DNA in the eggs/sperm/embryos of humans? Should we develop the ability to alter an unborn child and that child's eventual offspring?
