STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER
Thursday 5th March 2026
Dear Families
We’ve had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day! The school was a hive of activity this afternoon, and it was a joy to see so many parents and carers join us for shared reading sessions. The children (and staff!) loved getting cosy in their favourite lounge wear, and we were blown away by the incredible 'book character' decorated potatoes. Reading is a vital part of our children’s lives, and we cherish every opportunity to celebrate it together.
Today we send our best wishes to Mr Myers who has made the decision to leave us to peruse other interest. We wish him every luck for his future and thank him for everything he has done for our school community.
Tomorrow we have a training day so we look forward to seeing the children in school on Monday.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Kind regards
Mrs Winter

Apple AirTag and tracking children on school trips
It has been brought to our attention both locally and nationally that parents/carers are using devices such as the Apple AirTag to track children on school residentials/trips/visits/outings. Other devices can also include electronic watches that are essentially tracking devices with the capability of sending video footage from the device back to the person tracking i.e. parent. Such devices have the potential to post locations of children’s whereabouts on social media. We are therefore advising schools to include this in the consent slip which parents sign prior to taking part in a trip that such devices will not be allowed under any circumstances and must not be hidden in pockets/bags etc. If any tracking devices are found on pupils they will not be allowed on the trip and will be returned to school.
Apple have released the statement below which can be found on their website:
“AirTag was designed to help people locate their personal belongings, not to track people or another person’s property, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any malicious use of our products”
We are an allergy aware school.
Nuts are prohibited on school site, and should not be put in children's packed lunches or brought in as a playtime snack.
Including school trips and events.
Thank you
What's Cooking?
This week I have been working with Team Foss. We have continued to make Libum Roman Bread which is a sweet bread made from ricotta cheese. It is baked and sweetened with honey and would have been eaten by the Romans as a breakfast food or snack.
The children have had the opportunity to use a variety of skills (weighing, measuring, mixing, beating, kneading, sifting) and have learnt all about the ingredients used. We particularly focussed on ricotta cheese and the children enjoyed watching a video on how it is produced.
Well done to all of you this week, your sweet breads looked and tasted delicious! The children will continue to learn all about the Romans in their classrooms.
I will start working with Key Stage 1 next week. Team Aire, Wharfe and Ouse will be learning about bread and how to make a healthy sandwich.

One of our Key Stage One children has been up to some incredible fundraising for Little Princess Trust to transform her long hair into a free wig for someone who is battling cancer and other treatments. In less than a day Ada raised over £290. If she can reach her target of £700 this will cover the cost of making, fitting and styling of the wig.
We are incredibly proud of the choices, dedication and thoughtfulness that Ada has shown through this.
