Team DERWENT & dOVE (YEAR 3)

Good afternoon,

This week as part of our History topic: ‘How did the Romans change Britain?’, the children researched how the Romans came to Britain, looking at their three attempts and how they changed their strategies each time. In English, they continued their gladiator disaster stories and wrote a gripping second paragraph! In Science, the children began their learning on magnets by exploring a range of materials to find out which were magnetic or not as part of their second ‘Toyologist’ challenge. They developed their working scientifically skills by predicting what they thought would happen and concluding on their findings. 

Creative Curriculum: We will be exploring what the Romans believed. 

English

We will be writing the final paragraph of a gladiator themed narrative. 

Maths

• Year 3 - We are looking at rounding to the nearest 1000, 100 and 10.

• Year 4 - We are learning the 9 times tables and using this to help us solve problems.

PE

• Year 3 - We are continuing with our orienteering topic in PE. 

• Year 4 - Children will be swimming on Wednesday and will need their PE kits on Friday.

PSHE

• Year 3 - We are starting a new challenge to work in teams to design a garden for people who face a particular challenge - eg in a care home or a hospital. 

• Year 4 - As part of our topic ‘dreams and goals’, we are focusing on overcoming disappointment. 

Homework has been set today and is due in next Friday. 

Reading: The children will be expected to read a minimum of 3 times a week, ideally to a grown up. 

Spelling: The children will be expected to play a minimum of 5 games of the set spelling rule on EdShed. 

Maths: The children will have a task set on My Maths.

Children are expected to access TT Rockstars a minimum of 3 times a week.

If children cannot access the internet at home, sheets can be requested for homework.
