Most colleges and universities in and around the state of Iowa are test optional when it comes to the SAT and ACT these days, but taking these tests and scoring well can increase scholarship opportunities. Junior year is the most common time to take the ACT. Seniors will want to take it some time in the fall to get their score in time for filling out applications and scholarships in the winter and spring.

Several programs, especially at community colleges, may require placement testing, such as the Accuplacer or ALEKS test. Check out your program of interest to see what placement testing and scores are required for admission. Always feel free to stop by the counseling office for help.

This test is taken after admission to a college or university through their portal.
Senior students who have taken an online college class through ICCC needing the ALEKS test can plan to take this in the Spring via Triton pass or through their college/university portal.
The link above provides students information and helpful tools about the ACCUPLACER.
Testing locations include DMACC campuses in Carroll and Boone, ICCC campus in Fort Dodge, and Iowa Lake CC campuses in Spencer, Emmetsburg, and Algona. Students with TritonPass access can complete the test there.
