Mrs. Kita is happy to be teaching ELD at Emmaus High School. She has been with EPSD since 2006 and at EHS since 2009. Prior to teaching with East Penn, she taught for 5 years in the Whitehall-Coplay School District. Additionally, she has enjoyed teaching ESL to graduate students, community college students, and a broad range of individuals and groups in Japan. She served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in the Caribbean island nation of Grenada where she worked with teachers to help improve their teaching of reading skills.
Mrs. Kita holds a B.A. in Elementary Education, a M.Ed. as a K-12 Reading Specialist, a M.S in Restorative Practices, and an ESL Specialist Certificate.
She thoroughly enjoys having a classroom filled with students from all over the world and thrives on the energy and momentum created in this precious little microcosm of the world. She delights in observing students’ English language skills grow little by little and day by day. Before they know it, students are far beyond where they began and able to tackle HS academics with greater confidence and ease. Typically our EHS multilingual learner community has at least 12 different home languages. All this diversity makes for a very lively environment full of interest, growth, and laughter.
Mrs. Kita has an active family life with her husband and three children. The Kita family enjoys many and varied activities, especially those that involve the outdoors. Camping, kayaking, hiking, and yoga are some of their favorites. As much as possible, they also enjoy overseas travel. While abroad, Mrs. Kita and her family love to take lots of photos to remember their adventures. Being in a new place and not being able to easily communicate helps her identify with the feelings her students often experience when trying to forge ahead in Emmaus High School.
Mrs. Kita is also the advisor for Global Citizen's Club, a club dedicating to learning about the our great wide world, sharing one another's rich cultures, and actively contributing to a more peaceful and connected society.
