Welcome to ELD at EHS. ELD (English Language Development) at Emmaus High School involves direct instruction of social and academic English language skills to 9th-12th grade students who typically speak one or more other languages at home. Generally, the students who receive direct instruction are either beginning or in the early stages of acquiring English language proficiency.
In addition to a daily class of direct and dedicated English language instruction, many of these students are also supported within content classes such as English Language Arts, Sciences, Social Studies, and Math. In direct instruction classes, students develop and refine their English language skills through the use of our core texts (EDGE series by National Geographic) and other supporting resources that focus on academic skills, literacy, grammar, and vocabulary.
As our beautifully diverse group expands their English language skills, they also build rapport, support, and trust in one another. It is our privilege to witness and contribute to their success as English speakers and as students.
