Social studies teacher Melissa Montero and science teacher Mike Mihalik were selected to as participants in the Emmaus Rotary's Global Grant program at Mfuwe Day Secondary School in the Mfuwe, Zambia during the summer of 2017.
Mrs. Cindy Hornaman of the Emmaus Rotary led the team which brought equipment and supplies to Mfuwe Day. Mrs. Montero and Mr. Mihalik had the opportunity to observe the daily practices at the school and participate in some school activities.
In May of 2017, science teacher Tim Tembo and social sciences teacher Judy Chinyemba accompanied Mfuwe Rotarian Charles Zulu to Emmaus, Pennsylvania. The team from Mfuwe observed Emmaus High School's daily practices as well as school activities and events.

While in Mfuwe, Mr. Mihalik and Mrs. Montero had the opportunity to see the South Luangwa National Park. Mr. Mihalik made this video. It features his photographs which were taken during the summer 2017 Rotary Program.

This is a typical classroom at Mfuwe Day. The students stay in the same room for most of their coursework. The teachers rotate from room to room.
Zambia became independent from the British in 1964. The green on the flag represents the rich land and natural resources. The black represents the people. The red is for their struggle for freedom. Orange is for the mineral resources. The fish eagle symbolizes rising up against the nation's challenges.
Mfuwe Day students taught us how to play netball. Miss Chinyemba and Mr. Tembo played too.
