For those that enjoy reading extensive and complex historical biographies, Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton was the inspiration for Miranda's musical.
Alexander Hamilton is one of Mrs. Montero's favorite American historical figures. She read many Federalist papers during her undergraduate studies and she recalls that her high school American history teacher did reference him as well. Mr. Hamilton's ideas and contributions to the U.S. government still resonate today.
In July of 2015 she saw Hamilton: The Musical on Broadway. Mrs. Montero was so excited to see this musical; in her mind, Hamilton deserved more recognition in our current world. Lin-Manuel Miranda's masterpiece has provided her with a soundtrack she can reference in class and it has brought recognition to Hamilton himself.
Henry Clay is another American historical figure that Mrs. Montero greatly admires. She will reference him quite often during our antebellum America units.
In 1991, historian Dr. Robert Remini wrote Henry Clay: Statesman for the Union. Mrs. Montero will reference Dr. Remini and many other sources. She hopes that her enthusiasm will inspire you to further read about history that interests you.
