About Mr. Weimann

Matt Weimann Bio

Matt Weimann grew up in Springfield, MA, the hometown of Dr. Seuss and birthplace of basketball. He attended public school during a time the city school district was experimenting with a magnet program. Although Matt lived in the suburbs, he was bussed into the heart of Springfield, to attend elementary and middle school in an urban setting. Some extracurricular activities Matt participated in were playing trombone in jazz and marching bands, varsity wrestling, as well as many church groups and activities.

After graduating high school, Matt moved to Pennsylvania to attend a small private college in the Valley Forge area. During his Junior year Matt was hired by College Pro Painters (CPP), a company that hires and trains hard-working and ambitious college students to run their own house painting franchises. When he nearly doubled the production goals CPP had set as reasonable for a pioneer turf, Matt was given the "Rooky of the Year" award.

Upon graduating college, Matt apprenticed with an interior custom painter/decorator in the West Chester, PA area. He learned how to wallpaper, produce many complicated specialty and faux finishes, and make the pickiest customers happy. Matt then started his own business, Excellent Painting, "a company committed to high-quality workmanship at an affordable price". Married in the year 2000, Matt and his wife Sonia, worked together for the first five years of their marriage. Sonia then went on to study biology at Cedar Crest College, bringing the couple to the Lehigh Valley. Shortly thereafter Matt enrolled in a Masters of Education program from DeSales University.

Matt has been teaching at Willow Lane for seven years. He began a school-wide newspaper club and plans to start a chess club this year. His participation in a district technology committee has seen the beginnings of moving toward becoming a one to one district, and he is currently halfway through completing a Masters of Technology program from Kutztown University. Additionally, Matt began a blog, The Captain of Class with which he works to spread classiness around the world, battling the forces of ignorant unthinking.

In his free time Matt enjoys reading and playing with his six-year-old daughter Scarlet, running with his two dogs, Jeffrey and Jane, and gardening. He also likes creating things with his hands. There is a wooden castle in his classroom... that kids can climb up three feet in the air to read!
