Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
We are very excited about the upcoming school year, as we hope you and your child are too! Teaching is a commitment we take very seriously. Throughout the school year, we will not only be helping students learn, but learn how to learn. We also believe in learning from our students as they do from us. Learning is a life-long process.
We will set high, but clear and appropriate expectations for all our students and will assist them in using their knowledge and abilities to meet those expectations. As we expect respect, cooperation, participation, and honesty from our students, they should expect the same from us. We believe our enthusiasm and dedication we have for our profession sets an example for our students.
Throughout the school year, please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have about your child or other school issues. We will do the same. We believe keeping the lines of communication open between home and school is a key component to the success of a child’s education. We will keep you informed of our classroom policies, curriculum, your child’s progress, and any information that will aid in making this year successful and memorable!
Going school supply shopping is something that many students look forward to each year. Below are the supplies that we anticipate needing for the upcoming school year. Please let us know if you have any questions and/or concerns.
4th Grade Supply List
Qty: Item:
1 Pack of 24 count Crayola crayons
2-3 Packs of Wooden #2 Sharpened Pencils (It is a great idea to stock up on pencils when they are
on sale in August. You don’t need to bring them all in at the beginning of the year, but you can keep
them at home to replenish your classroom supply.)
5-10 Thin EXPO Dry Erase Markers
1 Pair of kid-sized scissors
2 Pairs of Earbuds (You may want to have some extra earbuds at home ready to
go. Students go through these pretty quickly!)
1 Small, personal pencil sharpener (non-motorized)
1 Pencil Pouch
1 2 Pack Glue Sticks
1 Pack of Black Sharpies (can be Ultra Fine and/or Fine Point)
1 Inexpensive Stylus for iPad *OPTIONAL
2 Marble Composition Books (for ELA and science)
1 Pocket Folder (for science)
1 Sturdy Tote Bag
1 5 tabs for binder
1 .5 inch 3 ring binder
*Labeling All Articles:
Please write your child’s name and/or room number on all articles and supplies brought to school. Throughout the year, many items become lost and go unclaimed in the Lost and Found. Labeling all of your child’s items can prevent this from occurring. This will also help students keep their materials separate from their classmates, which will be extremely important this school year.
*Snack:
Each day your child will have the opportunity to have ONE healthy snack. The purpose of the snack is to provide the energy needed to stay focused and work hard. Snacks with lots of sugar provide a quick boost of energy, but it doesn’t last long. Please send in a snack that is not messy to eat. At times we eat snack while we are working, and we don’t want to have it all over our papers. SNACKS MUST BE NUT-FREE. If a child’s snack contains nuts, he/she will be asked to take it back home. Students should also bring in water bottles daily to stay hydrated. Students can refill their water bottles throughout the day at our water filling stations that have replaced the water fountains.
On the first day of school, which is August 25th, please remind your child to bring his/her enthusiasm for learning, a positive attitude, a sense of humor, a caring heart and willingness to work hard. With these qualities in place, we can accomplish fantastic feats in fourth grade. We cannot wait to get started!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Thomas & Mrs. Kite
