Grading

Dear Families,

Since the district is grading the students on progress toward meeting their given standards, I wanted to let you know what the numbers mean next to each question on a graded test, quiz, or assignment, specifically in ELA. The students are scored on the following scale:

4 = Meet the Standard

3 = Advanced Progress Toward Meeting the Standard

2 = Developing Progress Toward Meeting the Standard

1 = Limited Progress Toward Meeting the Standard

For all questions, the students earn a score of 1, 2, 3, or 4.

  • 4 (all correct)

  • 3 (mostly correct)

  • 2 (some correct)

  • 1 (all incorrect)

In ELA, for questions with multiple parts or where work is shown, we review the question in its entirety and apply the rubric below as a guide to assist with determining the mastery level score for each question.

For the final number at the top of the test, we add up the numbers next to each question and follow an algorithm chart provided by the district to calculate the final grade of a 4, 3, 2, or 1. The example shown below is for a five question quiz ONLY.

Mastery Level for Gradebook

Combined Individual Mastery Levels for Each Question

4: 18-20 points

3: 12-17 points

2: 8-11 points

1: 5-7 points

The final grade at the top of the assessment is the number we record for your child in PowerSchool. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Sincerely,

Miss Huzela
