Students will develop civic responsibility as well as an appreciation and understanding of basic human needs, cultural diversity, and an interdependence of the world community. The program is based on history as the unifying discipline, and will include designated strands of geography, people, economics, contemporary issues, and political science. Critical thinking skills will be developed along with problem-solving techniques designed to help students resolve conflict.
The 5th grade social studies curriculum has three units:
Unit 1: Who Makes the Rules?
*causes of the Revolutionary War
*how our government balances each other
*responsibilities that a U.S. citizen has
Unit 2: Where Am I?
*How does the world work together to make it a better?
*How do different countries around the world get along?
*How can you contribute to our global society?
Unit 3: Where Am I Going?
*learning and understanding financial terms
*Where do see yourself in the future?
*What career(s) are you interested in?
*Where do you want to live in the future?
