In the fall of 2015 EPSD began exploring the use of iPads in classrooms by launching a small pilot in all Kindergarten classrooms. Each classroom was given 5 tablets. Half were given Nexus tablets and half iPads. Teachers spent half the year using one tablet and then switched devices with another teacher for the second half of the year. At the conclusion of the year teachers overwhelming reported that the iPads were easier to manage, had more high quality educational apps available, and were simpler for students to use independently. Based on that feedback the district then equipped Kindergarten classrooms in all 7 elementary buildings with 10 iPads each beginning in 2016-2017. For 2017-2018 iPad use expanded to Willow Lane Elementary Library and the Emmaus High School World Language Department. In the Spring of 2018 Classroom Teachers K-5 are being issued teacher iPads for summer exploration in anticipation of elementary classrooms being flooded with iPads for the 2018-2019 school year. The 2018-2019 school year will lauch with 14 Shared iPads to every Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classroom, and students in grades three and four each receiving an individual student iPad for their use during the school day. Grade five is slated to receive iPads for every student for he 2019-2020 school year.
